The Philadelphia Emoji Keyboard

Share your Philly love and pride with emojis, GIFs and videos

Fans of Philadelphia now have a fun, free way to share their Philly love and pride with the people they message — the Philadelphia Emoji Keyboard.

With more than 60 emojis, GIFs and videos that come in the form of a winking Liberty Bell (emoji), a flashing Yo! graphic (GIF) and a bird’s eye view of the William Penn Statue atop City Hall (video), the keyboard gives travelers and locals a new, creative way to talk about Philly in their private, day-to-day messages.

What The Keyboard Is & How To Use It

The new keyboard illustrates the attractions and icons of the City of Brotherly Love through more than 60 iconic Philadelphia emojis, GIFs and videos.

The image-based emojis work in text and email messages, along with apps that support pasting of images, like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Kik, Tango and others.

The specialty keyboard does not work on some devices and platforms such as Twitter, Instagram or Google Voice.

The Emojis

The Philly emojis give users a fun, new way to express themselves when they’re feeling pumped like Rocky, wise like Benjamin Franklin or hungry for a cheesesteak.

In addition to Ben Franklin (everyone’s favorite Founding Father), the Philadelphia Keyboard features imagery representing such Philadelphia icons as the William Penn statue atop Philadelphia City Hall, the LOVE sculpture at Love Park and VISIT PHILADELPHIA’s own “XOXO” from the beloved With Love, Philadelphia XOXO® campaign.

Q&A

Can I use the emojis on Instagram and Twitter?

No. The keyboards work on all social-messaging platforms in which you can copy and paste. That means you can reach your audience on Mail, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Kik, WhatsApp, Tango and most third-party text messaging apps — a network that has more than two billion monthly active users. However, the Philadelphia Keyboard doesn’t work on broadcasting apps like Instagram and Twitter because those platforms don’t allow the functionality.

Why don’t these images work exactly like the emojis in my standard emoji keyboard?

The Philadelphia Keyboard’s “emojis” are technically graphics and not coded text like conventional emojis; however, most people will refer to them as emojis. The word emoji is shorthand for a picture that people use in text messaging. The Philadelphia Keyboard works on all messaging platforms in which users can copy and paste.

Does the keyboard work on all cell phones?

The Philadelphia Keyboard works on iOS and Android phones in messaging apps that support copying and pasting. Unfortunately, some older Android devices do not support third party keyboards in their native messaging apps.
