Celebrate the end of summer with music, food and fun

Summer may be winding to a close, but Philadelphia’s festival season is just getting warmed up. Experience cultures from around the world at Penn’s Landing, taste the delicious foods of the Pennsylvania Dutch at Reading Terminal, celebrate in the streets of Northern Liberties and more.

Check out a few fantastic late summer festivals and events below:

2nd Street Festival

Date: Saturday, August 5
Celebrate a day of music, food, art, beer and more in Northern Liberties during the Fourth Annual 2nd Street Festival. The massive block party will shut down North Second Street between Germantown and Green Streets from From 12 noon until 10 p.m.

Penn’s Landing Multicultural Series

Celebrate diversity and world culture at Penn’s Landing during the PECO Multicultural series. These outdoor festivals embrace cultural traditions from around the globe. In August, celebrate during the ACANA African Festival, the Festival of India and the Caribbean Festival.

Pennsylvania Dutch Festival

Dates: August 9-11
Treat all of your senses during the 23rd annual Pennsylvania Dutch Festival at the historic Reading Terminal Market. The three-day festival features handmade crafts and delicious food including chicken potpie, donuts and much more.

Tree House Festival

Date: August 10
Go out on a limb and discover the beauty of trees during the annual Tree House Festival at Tyler Arboretum. Learn how the professionals climb trees, watch a live demonstration of chainsaw carving and enjoy a reading of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree .

Peachy Fun Days at Shady Brook Farms

Dates: August 11, 12, 18 & 19
August is the perfect time for peaches at Shady Brook Farms. Come pick your own peaches then celebrate the season with wagon rides, crafts and more.

Philadelphia Folk Festival

Dates: August 17-19
The 51st annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, Philadelphia’s answer to Woodstock, attracts musicians, storytellers and craftspeople for a weekend of song and merriment at Old Poole Farm in Schwenksville, PA.

Bonus: Smooth Jazz, Summer Nights

Dates: Every Friday in August
Head down to the Delaware River Waterfront every Friday night in August to cool off with the sounds of smooth jazz. Starting at 7:30 p.m. on the RiverStage on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, listen to free concerts from award winning jazz artists.
