Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off
A hot summer festival focusing on a summer classic
Saturday, July 19, 2014
Twenty of the area’s top restaurants and food trucks compete for the title of Top Grill Master during the Third Annual Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off. And the medium of choice: hot dogs.
The action takes place just off of South Street at the The Shambles at Headhouse Square.
From 1 to 4 p.m., members of the public are invited to treat their taste buds to a wide range of bun-swaddled smoked meats. Entrants include Alla Spina, Chewy’s Bridget Foy’s Brauhaus Schmitz, Society Hill Society, Hot Diggity! and Noir, among other mouthwatering eateries. Victory Brewing Company will provide cold draft beer, and Mom Pops will serve its signature small-batch fruit pops.
On the entertainment front, local band Black Stars will perform live as guests chow down.
The event’s official judges include local media, chefs and celebrities like Marc Summers, Audra Neff and Julia West, who will choose the top three grill masters.
In addition to meat-fueled glory, the grand prizewinner will receive $1,000 cash. The chefs will also be vying for “fan favorite,” which will be judged by the ticket-buying public.
The action doesn’t stop there! In a separate competition, 20 amateurs will compete to create topping combos inspired by Philadelphia. The winning topping will be featured for one month on the menu at Hot Diggity!
General admission is free. Food and drink tickets are pay as you go (4/$10 or 15/$30).
Food will go for one ticket, beer for two. VIP passes cost $30, but supplies are limited. VIP perks include early admission (noon), a special gift and 20 food/drink tickets.
Funds raised from the event will support the preservation of the historic Shambles at Headhouse Square, which date back all the way to 1745.
