Night Market – West Oak Lane
Popular street food festival brings dozens of food trucks to West Oak Lane
June 19, 2014
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Night Market Philadelphia, the city’s favorite street food festival, comes to 72nd St. and Ogontz Ave. on June 19.
Following a successful event in Old City in May, attendees at the West Oak Lane Night Market can look forward to amazing food, great beer, live music and more.
Coupled with wide, tree-lined streets that are perfect for dancing and a promise of shorter lines, it has all the makings of an excellent evening.
First things first: There’s going to be tons of great food, so it’s best to come early to try and avoid the lines — and come hungry to taste everything.
Look forward to dishes and snacks from more than 50 of the city’s best food trucks and restaurants with tons of the tried-and-true favorites on tap. That includes Night Market mainstays like local ice cream from Little Baby’s and wood-fired brick oven pizza from Nomad Pizza.
They’ll be joined by some of the more interesting dishes that Philly’s food trucks have to offer, including The Cow and the Curd’s Wisconsin fried cheese curds, Cheese E. Wagon’s jalapeño popper grilled cheese and PBandU’s peanut butter, bacon, pickle and cheddar sandwich.
Get ready for craft beer from local breweries powered by the good people from Bloktoberfest — the awesome annual Graduate Hospital festival. They’ll have brewery stations at three locations:
- Ogontz Ave. and Tulpehocken St.
- Ogontz Ave. and Walnut Ln., and
- Ogontz Ave. and Homer St.
In addition, Chester County’s acclaimed Penns Woods Winery will on hand offering wine made with Pennsylvania grapes, and Frecon Farms will be offering hard cider made from local apples.
This Night Market will run on Ogontz. Ave. from Wooster St. to Middleton St., with a small section of tables available at 72nd St. and Ogontz Ave.
Night Market is a delicious and extremely photogenic event, so while you’re out there on Thursday, be sure to Instagram the scene and the eats you enjoy and tag your photos with the hashtags #NightMkt and #VisitPhilly.
If you do, you can get free photos from the Visit Philly photo booth!
Art and Entertainment
Once you’re done eating and drinking, there’s plenty more to do at Night Market (until you’re hungry again).
Four bands will be taking the stage at Ogontz Ave. and Wooster St., including hip hop artist Joie Kathos, Philly Reggae Band and New Sound Brass Band.
Elsewhere DJ Jazzy Joe will be on hand as will Japanese drums from KyoDaiko.
Getting There and Parking
If you’re planning on taking public transportation, the Broad Street line is your best bet. Take it to the Olney stop, then grab the 6 bus to Ogontz Ave.
There are other options as well: Valet parking is available for $10. Drive to Ogontz Ave via Washington Lane or 74th Avenue and attendants from Royal Valet will take care of parking your car.
Alternatively, Night Market has teamed up with Uber to offer a complimentary $20 ride to new Uber users with the promo code WOLNIGHTMKT.
