Postponed for the 2015 Season
Ready for some finger-licking-good barbecue? The 13th annual Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox Barbecue Challenge returns to Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, Augugst 9 for a day of competition and family fun.
The main event: Former Philadelphia Phillie Garry Maddox and a number of Stephen Starr (and non-Starr) restaurant teams and pit master teams compete to win the hearts — and mouths — of attendees, who sample dishes from the participating teams and then vote on a people’s Choice Award winner.
Who’s competing this year? The list includes Baby Blues BBQ, Bomb Bomb BBQ Grill, Bull’s BBQ, Butcher and Singer, Carolina Blue, Continental Midtown, Continental Restaurant + Martini Bar, El Camino Real, El Rey, El Vez, Famous Dave’s, Hard Rock Cafe Philadelphia, McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon, Parc, Pod, Rubb, Taqueria Feliz, Village Whiskey, and XFINITY Live! Philadelphia.
The event also features a cornhole tournament, jugglers, face painting, ice cream, foosball and a raffle to win signed Phillies memorabilia as well as tickets to upcoming Philadelphia-area events.
Admission to the event is free, and you pay as you go. All proceeds benefit Compete 360, an organization founded by Maddox to support the education and development of urban youth.
NOTE: Though there is a Phillies game on the night of the festival, festival attendees do not need game ticket to attend. The festival open to the public along Citizens Bank Way.
