Va La Vineyards
A family-owned winery in bucolic Chester County
Va La Vineyards, a 6.7-acre, family-owned vineyard located in Avondale, Chester County, has spent more than 15 years perfecting their wines, focusing on Northern Italian varieties.
Using only specifically selected grape varieties grown in four separate types of soil, Va La Vineyards creates limited batches of wine in four types: Mahogany Va La®, Cedar, La Prima Donna and Silk.
You won’t find many of Va La Vineyard’s grape varieties anywhere else on the East Coast, or, for that matter, anywhere this side of the Mississippi River. The family specializes in combining rare grapes to create innovative blends.
The winery is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. These vintners produce very small quantities of wine, less than 750 cases per year, so wine aficionados should call ahead before visiting to see what’s available.
Va La Vineyards is open for wine tastings Friday-Sunday from noon-5:30 p.m. Tastings are $20 for a flight of four wines and wines by the glass and by the bottle are available.
Note: Due to its size and the fact it is a personal residence, the farm is unable to accommodate groups of six or more.
Va La’s small batches of wine sell out fast so sign up for their newsletter to get the scoop on what’s coming up and get first crack at buying your favorite wine.
