Description
NEW: With Love, Philadelphia XOXO™ Philly Cheesecake Gelato Flavor
In May 2010, Capogiro Gelato Artisans introduced a new gelato flavor — the With Love, Philadelphia XOXO™ Philly Cheesecake. Swirled with luscious amarino cherries, the new flavor debuted to rave reviews in Capogiro’s four Center City locations on May 18, 2010.
Overview
Everyone, from Town and Country and Oprah’s O Magazine to Food and Wine and The New York Times, is raving about the gelato at Capogiro. It really should be no wonder why — the gelato here is literally a work of art.
Before you visit, cast aside any preconception of gelato that you might have, especially if you are at all familiar with Philadelphia Water Ice. Unlike mass produced “gelatis,” authentic gelato is infinitely richer and creamier than ice cream, while containing about half the fat and calories. And Capogiro Gelato is gelato at its finest.
Owners John and Stephanie Reitano will tempt you with more than 25 varying flavors of gelato and sorbet every day. Prepared each morning from scratch in small batches, the gelato is made using the freshest and most natural local ingredients from Pennsylvania’s rich farmlands. Depending upon what hand-picked produce is in season, Capogiro creates their wonderful assortment of flavors, which sometimes includes unusual ones like Avocado and Mojito. Some of the most popular house favorites are Bitter Chocolate, Rosemary Honey Goat Milk and Sicilian Blood Orange.
Capogiro was founded in 2002 by Stephanie and John Reitano. Capogiro stays true to Italian tradition in creating gelati and sorbetti with fresh locally grown ingredients.
Produced in over 250 flavors, Capogiro gelato is available at the four Philadelphia, PA gelaterias, in gourmet grocery stores and online at www.capogirogelato.com.
Italian Tradition
Capogiro (Italian for “dizzy” or “giddy”) was conceived during the Reitano’s vacation to John’s native Italy. Inspired by the Italian pleasure, Stephanie and John opened a gelateria back home in Philadelphia using the artisan method, the highest level of gelato making. Gelato is crafted from scratch in small batches each morning using local ingredients.
Fresh Ingredients
Capogiro remains devoted to using local hand-picked produce and milk from grass-fed, hormone-free cows. The most fresh, natural, and seasonal ingredients reach patron’s discriminating palates.
Seasonal Flavors
Capogiro combines produce, herbs, liqueurs and dairy to produce over 250 gelati and sorbetti flavors that change seasonally with each harvest. Whether it is winter’s Persimmon Sorbetto, spring’s Honeysuckle Gelato, summer’s Lemon Opal Basil Sorbetto or fall’s Back Walnut Gelato, your palate will be aroused.
And if the gelato has you craving even more of Italy, you’re in luck: delicious panini sandwiches, homemade soups and great coffee are also on the menu.
