LaScala’s Restaurant and Bar
Fresh, home-style Italian-American comfort food in historic Philadelphia
Description
Since 2005, LaScala’s Restaurant and Bar has been serving up quality Italian-American home-style cuisine in the heart of Philadelphia’s historic district.
Named for owner Robert LaScala, LaScala’s is known for fresh, homemade dishes “just like grandmom used to make.”
Executive Chef Joseph Michael Nocella spent a great deal of time in the kitchen of his grandmother and mother growing up; something that shows in his homemade pastas, sauces, lasagna and more.
Cuisine
LaScala’s restaurant features a wide-variety of basic yet savory Italian-American favorites served up fresh. Choose from familiar favorites; chicken parmigiano, baked lasagna, spaghetti, pappardelle with wild mushrooms, veal saltimbuca and much more.
LaScala’s also has an extensive selection of hand-tossed pizzas that range from the simple; margherita with fresh mozzarella; to the savory; sirlon and gruyere with caramelized onions and a balsamic reduction.
Top off your meal with an espresso and homemade cannolis or a piece of tiramisu.
Price range: Appetizers/Salads: $5-$18; Small Plates/Homemade Pizzas: $8-$16; Pastas/Entrees: $13 – 31; Desserts: $7-$9
Atmosphere
After entering LaScala’s signature red doors, diners are surrounded by windows looking out onto the historic streets of Philadelphia.
Oversized canvases of candid family photos adorn the exposed brick wall leading from the casual dining room to the formal dining area. Amber lighting and dark wood floors create an intimate and relaxing dining environment.
If you’re just looking to watch the game and have a good meal, take a seat at the bar and enjoy. Private parties can rent out a large private dining room or Chef’s Table room.
Insider’s Tip
LaScala’s offers free parking Monday through Friday after 3 pm and all weekend in the parking lot above the restaurant.
Recently LaScala’s opened a second location at the Comcast Center in Center City, perfect for a quick and tasty lunch.
