Nestled on a quiet, tree-lined block of Victorian houses in the Spruce Hill section of University City, Marigold Kitchen is one of the city’s most elegant and exciting dining destinations.
Featuring a seasonal menu of daring new American cuisine, Marigold has quickly become one of Philadelphia’s most respected and popular BYOB restaurants. Dinners consist only of 4-6 course tasting menus featuring a small portions and amuse bouches, often created with local, seasonal ingredients.
History
Marigold has been serving the residents of University City for some 70 years, as it has operated under different management in the same location, a 1907 Victorian house, since the first customers were served in 1934.
Some of Philadelpha’s top chefs have passed through the ranks of Marigold Kitching including Erin O’Shea (Percy St. Barbeque) and Michael Solomonov (Zahav, Federal Donuts).
Executive chef/owner Robert Halpern took the helm in 2009, bringing high praises and packed tables with him. His creative tasting menus have garnered high praises, leading Marigold Kitchen to be dubbed the 2nd best restaurant in Philadelphia in 2012 according to Philadelphia Magazine.
Insider Tip
Marigold Kitchen is only open for dinner service (6-9 p.m.) Tuesday through Sunday. Plan your trip well in advance, as reservations for the small dining room fill up very quickly.
