Located in Rittenhouse Square, Village Whiskey is Chef Jose Garces’ intimate, 30-seat tribute to the time-honored liquor, set in an atmosphere embodying the free-wheeling spirit of a speakeasy.

Featuring an impressive library of 80-100 varieties at any given time of whiskey, bourbon, rye and scotch from all over the world, the bar is certainly a good spot to score a post-work or celebratory drink.

As much as Village Whiskey is a scene for cheersing and toasting, the spot comes from the culinary imagination of Jose Garces (of Amada, Tinto and Distrito, to name a few), meaning the food is equally outstanding.

Village Whiskey’s specialty from the kitchen is “bar snacks,” but that doesn’t mean a bowl of cashews. Rather, it means items like truffled cauliflower pickles, fried shrimp, deviled eggs and an à la carte raw bar. Burgers – some of the best in the city! – and duck fat fries take you into heartier territory, along with a small selection of upscale pub-styled entrees and desserts.

From present-day craft beers to prohibition-era cocktails, there are plenty of drink creations to choose from, too, in the dim-lit space, outfitted with a tin ceiling, antique mirrors, black-and-white white tiled floors and marble topped tables.

Take a seat at the pewter bar, and you’ll notice whiskies proudly displayed like leather-bound books – eye-candy to perhaps start the evening conversation.
