Founded in 1971 at the University of Pennsylvania in West Philadelphia, the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts is one of the nation’s premier urban performing arts centers on a university campus.
More than 50,000 people visit the center annually to enjoy all kinds of cultural performances, including jazz, world music, touring theater and works by local Philadelphia artists.
Its mission is to foster a diverse and thriving cultural community by advancing its core belief in the power of the arts to transform lives.
The Annenberg Center showcases world renowned and emerging talent in its three theatres. The Harold L. Zellerbach Theatre seats more than 900 people, while the Bruce Montgomery and Harold Prince theatres offer intimate spaces for smaller productions and events.
Artists and acts who have performed at the Annenberg include the Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers and the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra.
Additionally, the center produces a seasonal themed program called The Philadelphians: Migrations That Made Our City, which “explores the populations that migrated to and influenced our city” by pairing colonial-era music with new works that look back on Philadelphia’s history.
The Annenberg Center is also a major provider of performing arts access for school children, offering matinee performances for young visitors and the annual Philadelphia Children’s Festival.
