The new Museum of the American Revolution is a great reason for people to visit and revisit Philadelphia’s Historic District this summer. But from May 25 through July 4, 2017, VISIT PHILADELPHIA® is giving locals and visitors 13 more reasons to explore the city’s most iconic neighborhoods, and that’s Revolutionary: A Pop-Up Street Art Exhibition. Curated by Conrad Benner, the founder and editor of street art photo blog departamento de estradas.com, the free exhibit features 13 works of art that interpret the idea of revolution at 13 locations in Old City, Society Hill and along the Delaware River Waterfront.
Who & Where?:
The selected street artists—one for each of the stars featured on the original American flag—will feature new and existing works during the exhibit’s six-week run. Among the artists charged with challenging the social and political status quo for this project are Kid Hazo, Michelle Angela Ortiz, Shawn Theodore and Yasmine Mustafa and Monica O. Works will appear both indoors and outdoors in all corners of the District—from Spruce Street Harbor Park to the National Museum of the American Jewish History and from FringeArts to Franklin Square. An artist panel discussion will take place on June 7, 2017 at the National Constitution Center to explore the exhibit’s revolutionary theme.
Por quê?:
Part of Philadelphia’s Historic District campaign run by VISIT PHILADELPHIA, the exhibit aims to bring more people to the neighborhood and get them to see and do more while they’re there—visiting new attractions such as the Museum of the American Revolution and enjoying the bountiful historic, cultural, culinary, shopping and nightlife options.
