Harry Potter Festival in Chestnut Hill
Wizardry and wonder fills the air each October when Chestnut Hill transforms for the Harry Potter Festival.
The annual blockbuster festival takes over the charming town for two days of spellbinding events that magically morph the neighborhood into the much-loved fictional world created by author J.K. Rowling.
Potter fans of all ages can enjoy an enchanting weekend of film screenings, sorting hat demonstrations, a scavenger hunt and more.
Chestnut Hill transforms into Philly’s own version of Hogwarts.
Wands and Wizards Night on the Avenue
A full weekend of magical fun, the epic Harry Potter Festival kicks off Friday night with the Wands and Wizards Night on the Avenue.
During the evening, guests can enjoy live performances throughout the festival grounds, extended hours at avenue shops and food and drink specials at participating bars.
Harry Potter Festival on Germantown Avenue
The main festival on Saturday offers plenty of Harry Potter-themed events and interactive activities throughout the day.
Over past years, guests have enjoyed hayrides throughout the festival grounds, Defense Against the Dark Arts classes, Sorting Hat demonstrations, face painters, Quidditch training, 4 Privet Drive and Hedwig Hollow’s selfie parks, face painters and much more.
One of the festival’s main events is the Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament at Chestnut Hill College. Admission to the tournament is completely free.
Literary Events & More
Lovers of the literary side of the world of Harry Potter should look out for the official Harry Potter Conference at Chestnut Hill College, which hosts presentations that are free and open to the public.
Festival-goers can leave their brooms at home.
SEPTA shuttles folks out to the Chestnut Hill West Station via Regional Rail all throughout festival weekend. Advance ticket purchase is recommended and schedules are available online.
For those driving, limited parking will be available.
Note that while admission to the festival is free, some activities do require a small fee, so guests should bring cash. Pay-as-you-go activities in previous years have included fortune telling, potion making and a straw maze at the Woodmere Art Museum.
