The Experience

A vibrant celebration of the Latino soul, La Feria del Barrio is a late-summer/early-fall Philly tradition.

The free fiesta hits the streets of the historic Centro de Oro, North Philly’s Latino business and arts hub, each September with plenty of artisans and crafters, community nonprofits, performers and food merchants.

The all-ages festival draws local Latino performers and vendors, along with many hailing from Puerto Rico and all over Latin America.

This year’s festival includes exciting musical and dance performances by Mariposas Galácticas, Raíces Boricuas, Los Bomberos de la Calle, Tino Serrano y Su Orquesta Salsa Dura, and more. Plus, attendees can enjoy:

  • local Latino artists and vendors
  • delicious, authentic food
  • local agencies offering community health and education resources

Street parking is available throughout the neighborhood, but spots can be scarce during the festivities. The most direct way to get there? Public transportation.

SEPTA bus routes No. 39 and No. 54 run up and down Lehigh Avenue, while route No. 47 runs the length of Fifth Street all day. (Just keep an eye out for detours.)

SEPTA subway riders can hop off at Huntingdon Station on the Market-Frankford line or the North Philadelphia Station on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line, with each leaving you a 15-minute walk away.

History

La Feria del Barrio is produced by the community-based organization Taller Puertorriqueño, in partnership with a coalition of other cultural organizations including Asociación de Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM), Congreso de Latino Unidos, HACE and Raíces Culturales Latinoamericanas.
