Important moments in America’s LGBTQ+ history took place in Philadelphia, from the nation’s first LGBTQ+ civil rights sit-in at Dewey’s Restaurant in 1965 to the Annual Reminders at Independence Hall — the earliest public demonstrations for gay rights in the United States.
Greater Philadelphia continues its legacy of support with LGBTQ+ monuments and destinations throughout the region, a vibrant LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, and major celebrations like the annual Pride March and Festival and OURfest.
