Turn and face the strange, Ziggy Stardust style. Philadelphia casts an ethereal haze over the ordinary, delivering otherworldly vibes and feelings at several area attractions. It’s a city that openly invites bemused bewilderment and contagious curiosity.
From shrinking down to the size of a diamond ring at the Ministry of Awe to viewing sunrises and sunsets in hallowed hues at the James Turrell Skyspace to seeing the stars at The Franklin Institute’s Wondrous Space, these immersive experiences suspend reality.
Let’s take a look at five favorite spots sure to pique your curiosity.
Billing itself as an immersive art experience, Otherworld Philadelphia invites visitors to take the blinders off and see what hasn’t been seen.
Located in Northeast Philly, Otherworld transports you into a science fiction landscape where glowing orbs laugh, furry creatures poke their heads out, and vibrating purple-and-pink lights shine down on an alien rainforest.
That’s one extraterrestrial path, but the 40,000-square-foot space features 55 otherworldly rooms, each one depicting a different theme (including a chance meeting with Estella the Cosmeaux Moth) to keep you isolated from reality. Tickets are required.
Don’t miss: There are mini puzzles hidden inside each room. Look for secret symbols and interactive panels, plus movable dials and gauges, that solve a bigger mystery.
Otherworld Philadelphia is almost undefinable. One minute you’re in the middle of a prismatic infinity mirror. The next, you’re in a spooky haunted mansion. And then you’re in a cyberpunk rainforest — with actual rain. (Open the coffin in the sepia masquerade room for one of my favorite surprises.)
But I also love that Otherworld hosts concerts throughout the year — with past EDM shows from Chromeo, The Glitch Mob, Flowdan and others. Catch a performance if you can!
Where: Otherworld Philadelphia, 2500 Grant Avenue, Philadelphia, PA
Opened in March 2026, Ministry of Awe is the trippy brainchild of renowned muralist Meg Saligman, who made her career by coloring outside the lines.
Choose your own path across six immersive floors — all inside a 19th-century bank building designed by legendary architect Frank Furness. Step inside a bank with no money. Forge a check. Write your will. Shrink yourself down to the size of a diamond ring. Choreograph a dancing ballerina. Attend your own funeral. There are so many ways to fool your mind here. Tickets are required.
Don’t miss: Take a pause on the fifth floor, where Greek mythology comes alive through celestial instruments that send your personal story into the cosmos.
Where: Ministry of Awe, 27 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA
Considering Netflix House Philadelphia is one of only two Netflix Houses in the entire country, you know it’s a big deal. The attraction features two rotating immersive experiences and other interactive activities, dining, shopping, photo ops galore and more.
One of the biggest draws right now is Stranger Things: The Experience, which allows you to join forces with Eleven, Lucas, Mike, Dustin and the rest of the Hawkins gang to fight the interdimensional Vecna during a one-hour trip to the Upside Down. The experience runs through August 20, 2027.
Netflix House also offers VR adventures based on Rebel Moon and Squid Game, a nine-hole mini golf course, and TUDUM Theater — featuring high-end surround sound and seating for 229 guests.
Netflix House Philadelphia is part of King of Prussia, A Simon Property Mall. Attraction admission is free, with pay-as-you-go activities.
Know before you go: KPop Demon Hunters: The Immersive Experience opens on November 20, 2026, with early reports indicating it’s gonna be, gonna be golden!
Where: Netflix House Philadelphia, 180 N. Gulph Road, King of Prussia, PA
This permanent art installation — located in a Quaker-style meetinghouse and outfitted with an aperture in the 36-foot-high vaulted ceiling — takes LED cove lighting and remixes it with the sky, refracting light in mesmerizing patterns to create new shades and hues.
Stare up from bench seating as kaleidoscopic lights dance on the roof, drawing you deeper and deeper into thoughtful contemplation. Skyspace, which hosts hour-long special events, is open at sunrise and sunset on select dates, and registration is required.
Fun fact: Skyspace was designed by American artist James Turrell, aka “The Master of Light,” who received the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama in 2014.
Where: Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting, 20 E. Mermaid Lane, Philadelphia, PA
The Franklin Institute, founded in 1824 to carry on Benjamin Franklin’s inventive spirit, is one of the oldest centers for science education in the country.
Wondrous Space, a two-floor permanent experience, is your day-pass to living like a NASA astronaut. On the lower level, you can launch asteroids with the flick of the wrist, toss real marbles into a (not real!) black hole and let interactive light projections map your movements. The upper level focuses more on the aerospace industry through 80 real-life space artifacts, including a 10-foot-long rocket engine, two lunar rovers and more.
Several other attractions keep the cosmic connection going, like the Holt & Miller Observatory, Star Wars: The Experience (coming in February 2027) and the Fels Planetarium — with its cinematic new Encounters in the Milky Way experience (narrated by Pedro Pascal).
Know before you go: Wondrous Space and the Fels Planetarium are included with admission to The Franklin Institute. Additional tickets are required for special exhibitions.
Where: The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA
