Leave it to 93.3 WWMR — one of the longest-running rock radio stations in the nation — to give you a lesson on how it’s done. Your classroom? MMRBQ, the Philly institution’s annual waterfront music festival at Camden’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion.

This year’s lineup features national names, including legendary headliners Godsmack, Alice Cooper, The Hooters and Everclear, along with a lineup of local rising stars and even live band karaoke — and the fest hits a little harder this year, as a testament to the life of late WMMR radio legend Pierre Robert.

This Jewish American Heritage Month, Philly celebrates the sounds of the Jewish diaspora with the first-ever Philly Jewish Music Festival. Headlined by Grammy Award-winning artist Matisyahu, the day-long fest showcases a diverse slate of international, national and local performers, spanning hip-hop, rock, and Mizrahi, Sephardic and Klezmer musical traditions.

Hosted by comedian Eitan Levine, the day’s festivities also include comedy sets, children’s programming, audience activations and more. The festival is a part of the Jewish American Heritage Month events at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History.

With the city’s deep history in soul, rap and hip-hop, it’s no wonder Philadelphia is home to one of the nation’s most prestigious hip-hop and R&B festivals. The annual Roots Picnic — curated by iconic Philly band The Roots — features a yearly lineup highlighting groundbreaking up-and-comers and legendary acts alike.

The 2026 stacked bill is headlined by none other than Jay-Z and Erykah Badu, with performances by Kehlani, Brandy, T.I., Mariah the Scientist, De La Soul, Corinne Bailey Rae, Kwn, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Adam Blackstone and so many more. Whew!

The cornerstone of Independence Day festivities in Philadelphia is always the annual Wawa Welcome America festival.

The multi-week celebration commences on Juneteenth and culminates on July Fourth. This year’s events include the Juneteenth Block Party at the African American Museum in Philadelphia; Red, White, & Blue To-Do parade and block party in the Historic District; a massive July Fourth parade; and a headline concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway followed by a massive fireworks show above the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Featured performers throughout the celebration include household names such as Idina Menzel, Queen Latifah, Eve, Kirk Franklin, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Trixie Mattel. For the full festival lineup for 2026, keep an eye on the official website.

This touring outdoor music festival regularly features some of the world’s hottest EDM performers and DJs for two days of house, trance, dance, pop and more. Each year, the fest boasts an electrifying lineup, with past artists including Zedd, Tiësto, Subtronics, The Chainsmokers and more.

For over 30 years, iconic public radio station WXPN has brought musical legends and rising stars — including many local names —  together along the Camden waterfront for this annual can’t-miss fest at Wiggins Waterfront Park.

Yes! Philadelphia is a major tour stop for many artists, in addition to boasting a formidable local scene. There is a live music show almost every night.

From A-list rappers like Meek Mill to indie darlings like Hop Along, plenty of great artists call Philly home. (See: The Roots, Pink, McCoy Tyner, Santigold, Cayetana, Jill Scott, Christian McBride and The War on Drugs, etc.) Homegrown talent is fiercely loyal to the city, often playing shows for local fans.

It depends who you ask. In the 1960s and ’70s, the city had its own genre, the Sound of Philadelphia (often called TSOP) — a lush and funky form of soul. In the decades since, R&B, hip-hop and indie rock acts have earned acclaim.

Take your pick! You’ll see the next-big things at Union Transfer and Johnny Brenda’s. The Fillmore and Franklin Music Hall are excellent mid-sized venues, and arenas like Xfinity Mobile Arena are where you’ll find the legends.
