Cross off today’s to-do list and replace it with one thing: getting out on the Schuylkill River Trail.
The trail was just named one of the best riverwalks in the nation, according to USA Today’s 10Best (and everyone in Philadelphia, of course).
The 75-mile trail, which winds through parts of Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties, ranks as the No. 3 riverwalk in the country on the list, which started as a shortlist of 20 trails identified by a panel of urban planning experts and narrowed down to 10 by a reader poll.
USA Today highlights the 30-mile stretch between Philadelphia and Parker Ford, which takes runners and bikers past Valley Forge National Historical Park and features gorgeous scenery.
With spring on the way, it’s the perfect time to get out on the trail and check out Philly’s fantastic outdoor spaces.
Our guide to running and biking trails on VisitPhilly.com highlights multiple routes on the Schuylkill River Trail that make it easy for athletes, families and anyone who needs a screen break to stretch their legs and safely explore the region while social distancing. Get details here on the latest COVID-19 guidelines.
For even more fun on the Schuylkill River Trail, don’t skip the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk, the 2,000-foot trail extension that allows pedestrians, runners and cyclists to literally walk or ride over the river to some of the best skyline views around.
Of course, Philly has always been a city full of parks. William Penn’s original “greene countrie town” plan for the city revolved around five public squares that remain some of the best parks around (hello, Rittenhouse Square!). These 30 big and small green spaces will make all your picnicking, playing and relaxing dreams come true.
Get psyched for spring and get outdoors in Philly!
