Our time is now, Philly.
Maybe you’ve heard that our sports team are having a moment. Let’s count the ways:
It’s not just the Philly faithful who are on board with our top-performing sports teams — it’s national media as well.
Case in point: Wall Street Journal writer Jason Gay’s recent article: “In Praise of Philadelphia, Sudden Paradise of Sports.”
That feels nice, no?
In the article, Gay comes right out and says what we’ve all been thinking: “Philadelphia’s the sports capital of the universe.”
Boom.
While Gay calls out five of Philly’s professional sports teams, he focuses mainly on the Eagles and Phillies.
For the Iggles: “The Eagles are rolling. They’re rolling so much that the NFL cognoscenti have accepted their rollingness.”
And: “The script has been flipped. Philadelphia’s not the underdog town, parrying their own low expectations and tired cheap shots about Santa Claus and snowballs. It’s very possible the road to the Lombardi will have to go through the Eagles’ noisy nest. In January. You want a piece of that crowd?”
As for the Fightin’s? They’ve “sprinkled magic dust on their city and the baseball playoffs.”
Gay ends his piece with a rhetorical: “Do you really want to bet against Philadelphia right now? I don’t.”
We don’t either — and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

The Philadelphia Union — who led the Eastern Conference practically wire to wire this season — pulled off an epic win in Chester to advance to the MLS Championship game. Incredible!
The game is set to take place in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 5, 2022, but fans can head to one of four official watch parties to cheer on the boys in blue.
Those looking to watch the game on familiar grounds at Subaru Park need to register for a ticket, while an RSVP is required for the watch parties at XFINITY Live!, Chickie’s & Pete’s in Malvern and P.J. Whelihan’s in Downingtown.
The Sons of Ben shared 13 more sports bars, restaurants and breweries to watch as well, including Gran Caffe L’Aquila, Yards Brewing Company, Brauhaus Schmitz and more.
Want to show off your civic pride? We got you covered.
When you’re watching the game, toasting at a tailgate or (fingers crossed) celebrating in the streets, head to Visit Philly’s Instagram page and click the “three stars” icon above the photo gallery to access our “We Believe” filter.
