Overview

The Philadelphia 76ers, affectionately known as the Sixers, trace their lineage back to the now-defunct Syracuse Nationals, who won the NBA title in 1955.

Today, the Sixers play home games at Xfinity Mobile Arena — across the street from Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field.

Philadelphia’s professional basketball team has seen many highlights over the years, from Moses Malone’s “Fo’ Fo’ Fo’” prediction in 1983 to an improbable NBA Finals run in 2001 to Joel Embiid and “The Process” today. Now, the Sixers ready for the LeBron James era.

The franchise has claimed three NBA championships (1955, 1967 and 1983), appearing in nine NBA Finals and eight Eastern Conference Finals. The Sixers’ most recent trophy came in 1983 when they swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games.

Looking for star power? They have plenty of luminaries.

Ten superstar players have their numbers retired and raised in the rafters: Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain, Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, Maurice Cheeks, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Jones, Hal Greer and Dolph Schayes.
