Science History Institute
The Science History Institute explores the history of science and technology and the crucial roles they play in modern life.
Many of the foundations of civilization—from food to medicine to building materials—were created by people who gained an understanding of how to manipulate matter.
The museum’s permanent exhibition, Making Modernity, uses items from the Institute’s world-class collections to show how chemistry influenced our daily lives.
The museum also hosts various temporary and rotating exhibitions.
Admission is free and open to the public.
The Science History Institute preserves the history and heritage of alchemists, chemists, molecular scientists and related innovators who have sought to expand humankind’s understanding of matter ranging from the atomic to the galactic.
Visitors can explore rare books, scientific instruments and fine art to gain a new perspective on the everyday objects that surround us all.
Be sure to check out vintage films on display on the museum’s impressive 20-foot-tall periodic table video column.
