Philadelphia Open Studio Tours
Ever wonder what an artist’s studio really looks like?
Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (POST) allows everyone to take a sneak peek inside some of the city’s most creative spaces.
For two weekends every October, artists around the city open their studios to curious visitors, inviting them to talk, check out how they work and purchase artwork. This year’s tours take place October 15 & 16 and October 22 & 23, 2022.
With more than 300 artists participating, there’s a huge range of arts and crafts to take in, from painting and photography to textile art, ceramics, light sculpture and more.
Philadelphia Open Studio Tours — the largest tour of its kind in the region — gives art lovers the chance to meet some of Philadelphia’s most talented creatives while also exploring a bunch of the city’s thriving neighborhoods.
POST includes self-guided and guided tours of artist studios and related creative workspaces, gallery exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops.
Produced in conjunction with The Center for Emerging Visual Artists, POST tours not only make engaging with Philadelphia’s professional artists super accessible but also allow participants to craft a tour based solely on personal interests.
The weekends are split by region to make neighborhood exploration even easier. While all studios are open all four days from noon to 6 p.m. POST has divided the days as such:
Saturday, October 15, 2022
In the South Quadrant, Justin Tyner’s creations are made of salvaged glass. The kaleidoscopic pieces have been shown at galleries and museums across Philadelphia.
And don’t miss the DaVinci Art Gallery, which is exhibiting in Palumbo Park for an outdoor art experience.
Sunday, October 16, 2022
On Sunday, October 16, check out the Dyke + ArtHaus, set in a three-story rowhome in the West Quadrant. Also in the West Quadrant, Golden Dragon serves up a feast for the eyes and appetite. The Black and Asian-operated restaurant will host an art market alongside its fusion menu.
Saturday, October 22, 2022
In the Northwest, Kat Claar creates stunning, temporary works under the name From Blossoms. Her botanical sculptures celebrate the beauty in impermanence.
Seher Erdogran draws inspiration from her childhood in Istanbul to create sculptural tiles from wool and clay that reflect the architecture and culture of Turkey through color and texture.
Sunday, October 23, 2022
And on the final day of POST, visit The Clay Studio in Kensington in the Northeast Quadrant. Now in a new building, the Philadelphia mainstay since 1974 showcases works from a range of artists and is home to year-round classes for potters of all levels.
While in the neighborhood, be sure to check out Forge & Finish, a women-owned and operated jewelry brand. Each handcrafted metal piece is distinctive yet simple enough for everyday wear.
You can see the interactive map with all studios here.
Admission is FREE for self-guided tours at participating studios.
With anywhere from a dozen to more than 50 studios open for visitation in each neighborhood, POST participants can count on finding a diverse array of artists, mediums and style of space.
