Overview

City Tavern offers a historic dining experience, complete with Colonial haute cuisine, costumed wait staff and Colonial-era drinks and desserts.

Award-winning Chef Walter Staib earned his restaurant a Five Star Diamond Award with his hearty choices of traditional American cuisine, like the turkey pot pie in a delectable sherry cream sauce.

In the warm-weather months, diners can enjoy the traditional American cuisine from a garden-side seat.

Events & More

John Adams called the City Tavern “the most genteel tavern in America,” and the restaurant, founded in 1773, has hosted celebrations since the beginning of the American Revolution.

Proprietor Walter Staib, a winner of four Emmy Awards for his hit series A Taste of History, has created a menu our founding fathers would enjoy.

The space boasts three floors, ten dining rooms and a spacious garden to accommodate you and your guests.
