On July 4, 1777, the new Americans in Philadelphia commemorated the first anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by hosting a giant party filled with fireworks, bonfires, lights, decorations, music and joy — and the city has not stopped celebrating major events, culture fests, holidays, food, music and plain ol’ good times ever since.
Today, Philadelphia is one of the best places in the nation to celebrate … well, just about anything with a great event to attend. Pick any week on the calendar and you’ll find a slew of fetes, gatherings, parties, observances, sporting events, shows, concerts, parades, exhibitions and festivals — of the street, music, food, beer and cultural varieties.
From the Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day to fireworks over the Delaware on New Year’s Eve, there’s an event in Philly nearly any day to fit your mood.
