Ellen Powell Tiberino Memorial Museum of Contemporary Art
There’s nowhere quite like this visually stunning shrine to late Philly artist Ellen Powell Tiberino, whose unique style of sculpture and mural is showcased throughout the museum’s wide-open courtyard, a space punctuated by eclectic touches like a functioning treehouse.
Hailed as Philadelphia’s “premier African-America woman artist,” Tiberino is perhaps best known for her dark themes and controversial pieces. She exhibited widely during her prolific career in Philadelphia and beyond, and her drawings and paintings are held the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Established in 1999, the Ellen Powell Tiberino Memorial Museum of Contemporary Art includes many of her works, as well as those by her talented family members and friends.
