South Street’s Bloktoberfest brings in big bands and a huge array of craft beer providers to make for a true neighborhood festival that’s free to attend.
The all-ages festival features several blocks of food, craft beer and live music all afternoon long between Broad Street and 18th Street. Pay-as-you-go and enjoy tasty dishes from favorite food trucks and special items from South Street restaurants.
Filling up four blocks on South Street between Broad and 18th streets, the annual festival goes down from noon to 8 p.m., a full eight hours of laid-back fun.
The all-ages festival features blocks upon blocks of food, craft beer and live music.
Thirsty? Bloktoberfest features a wide selection of craft beers and beverages available at multiple spots throughout the festival. Note, too, that beer proceeds from the neighborhood event are reinvested into community schools, projects and area organizations.
As many as 10 different breweries typically sponsor the event. Festival-goers can pick from a selection of seasonal pumpkin brews and festbiers, IPAs, ciders, ryes, pilsners and beyond.
Pro tip: presale beer bracelets are a good way to skip the line and save money on brews at the festival. Tickets for beer bracelets and ticket packages range from $10 during presale and go up to as much $30 the day of the festival.
In addition to the festival, Graduate Hospital is home to a ton of great bars, restaurants, shops and parks, so visitors should make sure to check them out while they’re in the area.

Blocktoberfest’s 10-year anniversary celebration in 2018 features an impressive food lineup from local shops and trucks. Guests can eat their way through the event with tacos, meatballs, pierogis, BBQ and more to a soundtrack of live music.
Musical acts performing at the 2018 festival include Almshouse, which has a brand new single; Philly-based four-piece band Velvet Shelter; and headliner World Soundsystem.
Bloktoberfest is a nonprofit street festival, and 2018 beer sale proceeds will support neighborhood initiatives that address education, green space, public safety and community development. Last year’s festival granted about $45,000 to a dozen local organizations.
Visitors can simply take SEPTA’s Broad Street Line to the Lombard-South subway stop and will land right at the start of the festival.
No tickets are required — the event is free with pay-as-you-go food and two beer bracelet options. Beer bracelets can be purchased in advance or on the day of the festival.
