Shop alfresco or online at only-for-the-holidays markets and shops...

Surprises are part of the magic of the holiday season, and Greater Philadelphia delivers delightful pop-up shopping experiences.

Finding the perfect gift is easy at these specialty markets, many of which have expanded their 2020 offerings through online retail. Look for amazing deals on handmade goods and tasty seasonal fare while supporting independent businesses and Black- and Brown-owned businesses, which have been hit the hardest during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whether you’re buying gifts in person or online, remember that there’s no sales tax on most wearable goods, making those holiday deals even sweeter.

Of course, the holidays in Greater Philadelphia are different this year. Masks are required in all public spaces, as is social distancing. Many shops are open. Some are offering in-person visitation, with safety guidelines in place. Other stores may still solely offer curbside pickup or delivery. And most have online stores. Your best bet: Look online or call ahead to see what to expect. Read more here.

Browse our guide below to seasonal pop-up markets in Greater Philadelphia and fun themed gift packages that help spread holiday cheer. And for even more holiday happenings around the city, check out our roundup of The Holidays in Philadelphia.

Virtual Shops & Gift Boxes

01

Gift Boxes of Philly Goodies

When it comes to spreading the Philly love, more is more. Fun themed presents and gift boxes are a great way to support local businesses and give the gift of Brotherly Love. Joy Box, the collaboration between Triple Bottom Brewing Company, Lil Pop Shop and other purveyors, delivers local flavors to most Greater Philadelphia addresses. New releases from Resting Gift Face will put a little bit of Philly flair and grit on the tree, and Midtown Village’s Open House continues its popular gift box series with presents for every age and stage. And in lieu of the annual Made at Bok holiday market, the South Philadelphia makerspace has introduced BOK in a Box — two gift options full of treats from the building’s small businesses.

02

Handmade Holidays at Bartram's Garden

This historic, whimsical greenspace in Southwest Philadelphia is a holiday treasure, made even better by the small businesses and purveyors selling their goods on the online market. In addition to its annual plant and wreath sale, the online winter market from Bartram’s Garden is full of presents that are tough to find anywhere else, including homemade bodycare items, nature photographs, exquisitely designed notecards and children’s books from a Philadelphia author. Can’t choose just one? Themed gift packages will please just about everyone on your list.
