Are you ready for March Madness, Philadelphia?
March is a huge month for college hoops fans thanks to the annual NCAA Division I men’s college basketball tournament — aka La folie du mois de mars.
Set to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary, the 2026 tournament kicks off in Philadelphia when the city hosts first- and second-round tournament play (aka the subregionals) at Xfinity Mobile Arena sur 20 et 22 mars 2026.
Philly last hosted the annual tournament back in 2022, when the University of Pennsylvania hosted the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight regional rounds.
Each year, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hosts a men’s Division I basketball tournament, otherwise known as March Madness. Saint Joseph’s University hosts the Tour sous-régional 2026 à South Philly’s Xfinity Mobile Arena this year, featuring six games across two days.
The games draw thousands of fans to the arena for elite basketball — and to see the field of teams slowly get whittled down from 68 to 16. Friday, March 20, 2026 features four games across two sessions, with two heart-pounding games set for one session on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Those fans are in for a treat: Xfinity Mobile Arena recently underwent a multi-year $400 million renovation project that included upgrades to suites, the mezzanine level, the main concourse, the club level and the exterior, as well as revamped food options. The venue was recognized as one of the best venues of 2024 by Service clientèle sportif, un organe de presse couvrant l'actualité économique du monde sportif.
While Philly-area teams didn’t make the tournament in 2024 or 2025, Villanova, Temple University, Drexel and Saint Joe’s have all made appearances within the last decade. With the NCAA season well underway, here’s hoping the local teams head into March Madness strong.
The teams playing in Philly have yet to be announced, but fans can check out the proposed Xfinity Mobile Arena schedule online, acheter des billets (prices start around $108) and start planning your trip to Philly now as the season continues to nudge closer to March Madness.
