Overview

Explore the natural world at Camden Children’s Garden, a four-acre interactive garden with varied themes including a Dinosaur Garden, Storybook Gardens, Tree House and Picnic Garden.

Visitors might try one of the seasonal shows in the Piney Woods Amphitheatre, then hop on the Garden Carousel, Arrow River Train or Spring Butterfly ride.

Or, when the weather’s warm, splash around in the Main Plaza Water Spray Ground.

Educational exhibits include the the KaBOOM! Fitness Garden, Plaza de Aibonito Tropical Exhibit and the Philadelphia Eagles Four Seasons Butterfly House.

Extend the adventure by taking the RiverLink Ferry from Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia across the Delaware River to the Children’s Garden (seasonal).

The History

The Camden Children’s Garden is run by the Camden City Garden Club, a non-profit formed in 1985 to help city residents with community gardening. Club members, interested in training city youth in landscaping techniques, began planning the children’s garden in 1993.

In the warm months, bring a towel and play in the Main Plaza Water Spray Grounds.

In consultation with teachers, landscape architects and Jane Taylor, noted designer of the children’s garden at Michigan State University, they developed the imaginative Camden Children’s Garden for children ages three to 12. The site opened in July 1999.

The Camden City Garden Club employs Camden teenagers for job training and urban greening projects, and assists members with cleaning vacant, city-owned lots and transforming them into beautiful and productive community gardens, growing fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Don’t Miss

The Camden Children’s Garden offers a variety of educational activities, including on-site lessons, garden festivals for schools and distance learning.

Guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. In the warm months, be sure to bring a towel to play in the spray garden.

Events & More

Family festivals every 2nd & 4th weekend of each month feature hands-on activities, crafts and entertainment. Plus, the Children’s Garden features a great view of the July 4th fireworks on the Delaware River Waterfront.
