Look for made-to-order ice cream bars hand-dipped in Shane Zoetwaren chocolate, too.

All-female tap ensemble The Lady Hoofers kick off their 15th season with lightning-fast footwork and plenty of innovative choreography during their annual Spring Concert Series. This year’s performance brings new movements by local choreographers Lisa LaTouche and Caleb Teicher, plus a world-premiere performance designed by NYC’s Dre Torres (Saturday).
• Musicians’ Choice at the Kimmel Center: This omakase of musician-selected performances by The Philadelphia Orchestra leaves the setlist up to the professionals, with a diverse concert of new pieces, old faves and signature works hand-picked by each performer. • Living Legacy: A Tree Walk Through Historic Fair Hill: Historic Fair Hill in Germantown is home to more than American history. The hidden gem plays host to a wide variety of arboreal wonders, with a tree collection including sycamores, oaks, viburnums, lindens, black locusts and American chestnuts. The tour — led by local guide Shay Pilot — guides visitors through the flora, all while dropping lore about the plants’ history, ecology and cultural significance (Saturday).
• Colonial Farm Experience at the Mercer Museum: Ah, the Colonial days, when water came straight from the well, log houses were the norm and electricity was about 100 years away. Curious about what life was like in pre-Revolution America? This educator-led, family-friendly experience bij de Mercer Museum in Bucks County shows what life was like on Colonial-era farms with an immersive 45-minute program (Saturday).
• East Falls Tour: Wrapped in natural beauty and village vibes, Northwest Philly’s Oostelijke watervallen is downright charming. The neighborhood is known for its waterfront views and access to popular outdoor attractions — and this guided tour by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia explores how the riverside hamlet transformed from a small fishing outpost and mill town in the 1800s to the bustling neighborhood it is today. • JUST DANCE at Silk City: Bar/diner/restaurant/beer garden/nightclub Silk City is back with another night of electrifying sounds in Northern Liberties. Drink up and wind down in the retro diner before going wild on the dance floor. If you’re not bopping with DJs Krispy, Swizzymack and Meer Meer, are you truly living? (Friday.)
• Crimewave: A Goth, Post-Punk & Darkwave Party at Kung Fu Necktie: This one’s for all the goths. Fishtown’s Kung Fu Necktie is hosting a 21-plus party featuring all of your darkwave, post-punk and industrial faves. Shuffle apathetically to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and more, and prove to mom that it was never just a phase (Saturday).

Bezoekers van de National Constitution Center kan nu de langverwachte De stichting van Amerika galerie, met high-tech momentopnamen van het Revolutionaire Amerika in dramatisch detail.

De nieuwe permanente galerie vertelt het verhaal van hoe de vroege Amerikanen vochten voor onafhankelijkheid, de Amerikaanse grondwet creëerden, de Bill of Rights opstelden en uiteindelijk de basis legden voor onze democratie. Bezoekers kunnen meeslepende gangen verkennen, in contact komen met tactiele installaties, boeiende video's bekijken en levensechte artefacten bekijken.

Naast andere artefacten bevat de nieuwe ruimte een origineel exemplaar (!) van de Amerikaanse grondwet - een van de slechts 14 overgebleven exemplaren - dat tot 2026 wordt tentoongesteld, samen met zeldzame eerste drukken van 17 grondwetswijzigingen.

Het werk van Ruth E. Carter, tweevoudig Academy Award-winnares voor kostuumontwerp, staat centraal in de African American Museum in Philadelphia’De nieuwste tentoonstelling van, Afrofuturisme in kostuumontwerp, waarin wordt onderzocht hoe Carters handgetekende kostuumontwerpen hebben bijgedragen aan het definiëren van iconische filmpersonages.

De modulaire tentoonstelling — met interactieve elementen — toont bekroonde kostuums en artefacten uit Carters gewaardeerde carrière, waaronder een zeldzame blik op de persoonlijke schetsen en kostuums van de artiest uit Carters privécollectie.

Carter - ook bekend als de meest genomineerde zwarte vrouw in de Oscargeschiedenis - won Oscars voor haar kostuumontwerpen voor de Black Panther films en is de eerste zwarte vrouw die meerdere Academy Awards in welke categorie dan ook heeft gewonnen.

Dwaal door de straten en winkel tot je erbij neervalt. Zeven zondagen lang, in april en mei, is een van Philadelphia's top winkelen en dineren bestemmingen verandert in een autovrije oase.

Tijdens Open straten: West Walnut, voetgangers kunnen van 10.00 tot 17.00 uur winkelen, dineren en slenteren langs zeven autovrije blokken terwijl ze genieten van akoestische muziek, rondtrekkende artiesten en gezinsvriendelijke activiteiten.

De kleinste wezens komen tot leven in de iconische kinderboeken van Eric Carle, zoals De rups die veel honger had. De illustraties van deze Kleine levende dingen staan centraal op de Michener Kunstmuseum’De nieuwste tentoonstelling toont de kunst van de auteur-illustrator.

De tentoonstelling in het Doylestown museum bevat originele kunst uit geliefde Carle-titels zoals: De zeer stille krekel, De zeer drukke spin en Bruine Beer, Bruine Beer, Wat Zie Je? Bezoekers krijgen ook de kans om Carle's vroege schetsen te bekijken en een kijkje te nemen in het proces van de kunstenaar.

Bijna een halve eeuw eerder Hamilton, op Broadway nog een iconische show over de revolutie. En in 2026, Walnut Street Theater presenteert een nieuwe productie van de klassieker uit 1969 1776: De musical.

De bekroonde hervertelling vertelt het verhaal - dat zich hier in Philadelphia afspeelt - van Adams, Franklin en Jefferson terwijl ze vechten voor onafhankelijkheid tegen een vastgelopen Continentaal Congres, met humor, romantiek en nagelbijtende spanning.

Wilt u nog meer historische betekenis? Walnut Street Theatre is nog steeds het oudste theater in de hele Engelssprekende wereld dat continu in bedrijf is, en werd slechts 30 jaar na de afgebeelde gebeurtenissen geopend.

Om de 250e verjaardag van het land te herdenken, creëert The Clay Studio - 's lands grootste organisatie voor keramische kunst - een omvangrijke tentoonstelling toont werk van 27 kunstenaars verspreid over 16 kunst- en cultuursites. Kunstenaars baseren hun creatieve werk op historisch onderzoek dat op deze locaties is uitgevoerd om werken te inspireren die thema's van onafhankelijkheid door de evolutie van Amerika verkennen.

Kijk uit voor Radicale americana tentoonstellingen op plaatsen zoals De kleistudio, Cliveden, Taller Puertorriqueño en nog veel meer. Data en tijden variëren per locatie en de tentoonstelling loopt tot juli.

Toen de wereld hen, hun werk en hun onderwerpen probeerde uit te wissen, eisten deze in Philly gevestigde kunstenaars hun ruimte op - op hun eigen voorwaarden, met hun eigen werk.

Ontvouwt zich niet in één, maar in twee Philly musea. Woodmere en de Pennsylvania Academie voor Schone Kunsten — Lichamen en zielen verkent hoe het werk van kunstenaars de complexiteit van de menselijke ervaring benadrukte, gender, seksualiteit, relaties en meer aankaartte, compassie cultiveerde en zich een betere wereld voorstelde.

De krachtige tentoonstelling toont meer dan 130 schilderijen, tekeningen en sculpturen van kunstenaars als Barbara Bullock en Marta Sanchez en uit de collectie van kunstverzamelaars Robert en Frances Coulborn Kohler uit Philadelphia.

Je kunt veel over iemand vertellen aan de hand van zijn of haar huis. Voor de Shakers - een religieuze gemeenschap die ontstond in het 18e-eeuwse Engeland en bloeide in de Verenigde Staten - strekten hun sterke overtuigingen over gemeenschap, arbeid en gelijkheid zich uit tot elk facet van het leven, inclusief hun meubels, architectuur en alledaagse goederen.

Een combinatie van historische, door Shakers gemaakte kunstvoorwerpen, rechtstreeks uit de Testament van Ann Lee met hedendaagse kunstwerken geïnspireerd door de gemeenschap, deze nieuwe tentoonstelling bij de Instituut voor Hedendaagse Kunst onderzoekt hoe de groep een onderscheidende visuele taal heeft ontwikkeld die wordt gekenmerkt door eenvoud, innovatie en doelgerichtheid.

Met hun eigen roemrijke geschiedenis, de Philadelphia Museum of Art en de Pennsylvania Academie voor Schone Kunsten (de allereerste kunstschool en het allereerste museum van het land) verdiepen zich in de rijkdom en diversiteit van de Amerikaanse kunstgeschiedenis voor deze blockbuster tentoonstelling, getimed om samen te vallen met de Vijfhonderdjarig jubileum.

De collectie, die 300 jaar Amerikaanse kunst samenbrengt en stukken bevat uit de ongelooflijke persoonlijke collectie van Phillies-eigenaar John Middleton en zijn vrouw Leigh, bevat meer dan 1000 portretten, beeldhouwwerken, meubels, foto's en meer in beide musea. Kijkers vinden enkele van de grootste namen uit de kunstwereld - waaronder Mary Cassatt en Charles Willson Peale - zij aan zij tentoongesteld met vaak over het hoofd geziene zwarte, inheemse, immigranten en historisch ondervertegenwoordigde kunstenaars en hedendaagse talenten.

Je hoeft de stad niet uit om te genieten van een Universal themaparkervaring. Deze wereldpremière tentoonstelling, aangeboden door The Franklin Institute en Universal Destinations & Experiences biedt een kijkje achter de schermen bij de innovatie en wereldopbouw die in elk Universal-pretpark plaatsvindt.

Met een oppervlakte van 18.000 vierkante meter en acht overweldigende galerijen toont de interactieve ervaring meer dan 100 voertuigen, rekwisieten en andere originele artefacten van wereldberoemde attracties, attracties en liveshows. En zoals het Franklin Institute betaamt, heeft de tentoonstelling een educatieve focus, waarbij alle technologie, techniek en kunstzinnigheid die komen kijken bij het ontwerpen van pretparken wordt uitgelicht.

Terug in 2026, de geliefde biertuin van Philly, Parken op tap, brouwt en eet in stadsparken en groene ruimten in heel Philadelphia, met elke week een nieuwe buurt.

Dagkaarten kosten slechts $5 (gratis voor SEPTA Sleutelhouders) en haltes Reading Terminal Market, Eastern State Penitentiaryde Philadelphia Museum of Artde Philadelphia Zoo en nog veel meer. Voor de allereerste keer stopt de opvallende paarse bus ook bij 30th Street Station, het Mütter Museum en het Fashion District.

Deze geliefde culinaire schat keert terug naar het hart van South Philly's FDR Park en luidt het openluchtmarktseizoen in. A nationaal bekende seizoensmarktde Zuidoost-Aziatische markt verschijnt elk weekend (met uitzondering van speciale evenementen) en biedt een aantal van de beste Laotiaanse, Khmer, Thaise, Vietnamese en Indonesische gerechten in de stad.

Op de markt van vorig jaar waren er meer dan 70 verkopers met traditionele gerechten, authentiek straatvoedsel en cultureel specifieke producten, plus planten, sieraden en kleding. Pak een picknickkleed in en vergeet niet om contant geld mee te nemen - sommige verkopers werken alleen met contant geld en er is geen geldautomaat op het terrein.

“Wanneer in de loop van menselijke gebeurtenissen ...” Het document waaruit die belangrijke zin afkomstig is, vormt het middelpunt van de programmering van het Museum of the American Revolution in 2026. De tentoonstelling The Declaration's Journey schetst de geschiedenis van Amerika's oprichtingshandvest en de voortdurende invloed ervan, die wereldwijd meer dan 100 onafhankelijkheidsbewegingen inspireerde.

De nalatenschap van de Verklaring wordt verkend aan de hand van archiefstukken, kunst en artefacten, waaronder de stoel van Thomas Jefferson, een door Markies de Lafayette geannoteerd ontwerp van de Franse Verklaring van de Rechten, de gevangenisbank waar Martin Luther King Jr. zijn “Brief uit een gevangenis in Birmingham” schreef, een spinnewiel dat door Gandhi werd gepresenteerd en nog veel meer.

In 1803 gaf president Thomas Jefferson Meriwether Lewis en William Clark de opdracht om de westelijke gebieden van het land te verkennen na de Louisiana Purchase. Maar wist je dat Philadelphia's Academie voor Natuurwetenschappen bewaart bijna alle originele dagboeken van de ontdekkingsreizigers en bewaard gebleven specimens met betrekking tot hun botanisch onderzoek in zijn Lewis & Clark Herbarium?

Het nieuwe museum Plantkunde van naties De tentoonstelling onderzoekt die rijke collectie opnieuw door een inheemse bril, waarbij botanie (de studie van planten) wordt gecombineerd met etnobotanie (de studie van hoe mensen planten gebruiken) om de manier waarop we de koloniale reis interpreteren een nieuwe vorm te geven.
