From Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks comes this poetic drama from Het Wilma Theater’s HotHouse ensemble that examines American history through the lens of a Black gravedigger named the “Founding Father,” a Lincoln impersonator who invites tourists to reenact his assassination.

Lindsay Smiling directs the play, which interrogates the ways we document American history, focusing on themes of identity and race.

Explore FDR Park’s evolution over the last century with this walking tour of the north side of the 350-acre park, ending at the American Swedish Historical Museum (Saturday).
• Dendê & Band: Afro-Brazilian Music at the Fallser Club: With percussionist, singer, composer and bandleader Dendê as its lead, this ensemble delivers Latin, Caribbean and African-inflected rhythms and flavor to music lovers. Expect a sound that pulls from samba de roda, Candomblé, rumba, Afrobeats, mbalax and more when Dendê & Band come to the Fallser Club in Oostelijke watervallen (zondag).

De buitenstaanders comes to the Academy of Music this weekend, bringing rain and mud to the stage for an epic fight scene, as part of Ensemble Arts’ 2026 Broadway lineup.

The beloved coming-of-age tale about rival teen gangs, first featured in S.E. Hinton’s classic novel and later a Francis Ford Coppola film, paints the classic struggle between the haves and the have-nots.

Shortly after opening on Broadway in 2024, the musical won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. See Ponyboy, Johnny and the other outsiders transform the stage into 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, as they struggle for acceptance.

Professional wrestling’s roots run deep here, stemming back to Philadelphia Arena at 46th and Market streets in the 1920s. It’s rowdy and raucous, and now it’s back.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) invades the Liacouras Center this week for AEW Dynamite, the league’s weekly showcase that puts elite talent on the national stage. While the fight card is not yet released, expect a who’s who of heels and faces.

Speaking of popular good guys, New Jersey native Orange Cassidy stars in a promo ad where he stands outside famed Philly sites like Independence Hall.

A new exhibit reminds people that there were two sides to the Revolutionary War.

Christuskerk shines the spotlight on the human cost of independence, drawing on the polarizing toll the war took on Loyalists and Patriots in 1776. It details the non-bloody battlefields in the streets, between neighbors who worshiped at the same churches and attended the same services.

The exhibit’s opening celebration kicks off with a speaker series event by Emily Sneff, author of When the Declaration of Independence Was News.

Let’s party! This pep rally was 10 years in the making

Philadelphia Cycling Classic honors the return of an iconic city tradition with a 100 Days Out Pep Rally at Fairmount Water Works. Look for a celebratory toast and cheer party for the beloved race, along with live music, giveaways, swag and more.

Founded in 1985, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic hits the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on August 30, 2026, following the Schuylkill-rivier and winding through Fairmount Park, before taking on the challenging Manayunk Wall. This marks the first time for the 14.4-miler since June 2016.

Celebrate Greek heritage, culture and food at this lively, four-day festival in het hart van Centrum.

One of Philly’s favorite springtime fests celebrates its Golden Jubilee. The Annual Lebanese Festival in South Philly toasts to five decades of community, culture and celebration with plenty of food, plenty of entertainment and tons of dancing.

Once again returning to its longtime home at St. Maron Church, the family-friendly festival promises a full weekend of festivities. Revelers can expect traditional dance performances, including Dabkeh, live music, authentic Lebanese cuisine for sale and all-ages fun well into the evenings.

Fan Expo takes over the Pennsylvania Convention Center this weekend, honoring all things pop culture, from sci-fi, horror and gaming to comics, anime and cosplay.

Billed as the world’s largest comic con producer, expect three action-packed days of panels, workshops, screening rooms, red carpets, trivia competitions, fan group meetups and a quarter-million square feet of exhibitor space.

Inside, you’ll be transported to a mini Hollywood set. Celebrities slated to appear include Rocky III villain Mr. T, Rudy himself (Sean Astin), Superman (Tom Welling) and four — count ‘em, four! — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus famed actors Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom.

Stateside Live! opens the expanded Plaza with a grand opening party set to rock the South Philadelphia Sports Complex all weekend.

The new indoor-outdoor entertainment destination — a $20 million transformation that includes AVA Rooftop Bar, the Coors Light Stage, PBR Backyard, plus the Blue Moon Beer Garden and the Stateside Live! Crush Bar — has multiple concerts scheduled, including a free show from Taking Back Sunday with Mayday Parade on Friday at 5 p.m., along with the debut of Surfside Sundays on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Clark Park, the go-to gathering spot for Spruce Hillers since the 1800s, hosts cinéSPEAK’s Under the Stars Film Festival for another groovy summer dedicated to uplifting bold voices and global movements in independent film.

Opening night features the Pennsylvania premieres of the Sundance Award-winning film Everybody to Kenmure Street — a feature-length documentary focused on an immigrant raid in Glasgow, Scotland — and Barriga Llena, Corazón Contento, a short documentary centered on a grassroots food pantry launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These all-ages, family-friendly movie nights are free to attend, which run every Friday for four weeks.

Esperanza Kunstcentrum presents a world premiere multidisciplinary experience honoring Puerto Rico’s bomba and plena music and dance traditions, modeled after the island’s popular annual street party.

Part of the center’s slate of events celebrating America’s 250th birthday, the Festival van de straat van San Sebastián in Filadelfia showcases the work of Tony Mendez and Los Bomberos de la Calle with an immersive experience in which the percussion has a musical conversation with vibrantly dressed dancers. The musical folk traditions of bomba and plena have roots in Puerto Rico’s ancient Indigenous culture, but have been experiencing a resurgence.

Eat and drink like a member of the Continental Congress as Carpenters’ Hall hosts a throwback evening bridging history and heritage. The Spirit of a Nation calls to mind Colonial Era feasts where the Founding Fathers plotted revolution over tankards of rum and fine French cuisine, drawing on historically accurate menus from 1776.

The Semiquicentennial-inspired event promises interactions with reenactors and authentic flavors, including a Benjamin Franklin–style molasses spruce beer and a rum fermented from yeast sourced from a 260-year-old birch tree at Valley Forge.

Bonus: Chef Justin Cherry shares insight on French-American food influences, further proving why France’s involvement in the Revolutionary War was so critical to American independence.

Look forward to bursts of berry-centric fun, including pre-picked (or limited pick-your-own) local berries, strawberry-themed sweet treats and drinks, live bands, and tonnen of family-friendly activities (think: wagon rides, playgrounds, go-carts, a petting zoo and more).

• Tulpehocken Station Historic District Home & Garden Tour: Architectural geeks, this one’s for you. Tulpehocken Station Historic District — now a part of Germantown — boasts a priceless collection of Victorian eclecticism, Gothic revival, Italianate revival, Queen Anne, Tudor revival homes and more, dating from the late 1840s through the 1880s. Admire the stately homes (described as “Germantown mansions” by some locals) lining the streets of one of Philly’s first “suburban” neighborhoods during this wandeltocht (zondag).

Bezoekers van de National Constitution Center kan nu de langverwachte De stichting van Amerika galerie, met high-tech momentopnamen van het Revolutionaire Amerika in dramatisch detail.

De nieuwe permanente galerie vertelt het verhaal van hoe de vroege Amerikanen vochten voor onafhankelijkheid, de Amerikaanse grondwet creëerden, de Bill of Rights opstelden en uiteindelijk de basis legden voor onze democratie. Bezoekers kunnen meeslepende gangen verkennen, in contact komen met tactiele installaties, boeiende video's bekijken en levensechte artefacten bekijken.

Naast andere artefacten bevat de nieuwe ruimte een origineel exemplaar (!) van de Amerikaanse grondwet - een van de slechts 14 overgebleven exemplaren - dat tot 2026 wordt tentoongesteld, samen met zeldzame eerste drukken van 17 grondwetswijzigingen.

Om de 250e verjaardag van het land te herdenken, creëert The Clay Studio - 's lands grootste organisatie voor keramische kunst - een omvangrijke tentoonstelling toont werk van 27 kunstenaars verspreid over 16 kunst- en cultuursites. Kunstenaars baseren hun creatieve werk op historisch onderzoek dat op deze locaties is uitgevoerd om werken te inspireren die thema's van onafhankelijkheid door de evolutie van Amerika verkennen.

Kijk uit voor Radicale americana tentoonstellingen op plaatsen zoals De kleistudio, Cliveden, Taller Puertorriqueño en nog veel meer. Data en tijden variëren per locatie en de tentoonstelling loopt tot juli.

Toen de wereld hen, hun werk en hun onderwerpen probeerde uit te wissen, eisten deze in Philly gevestigde kunstenaars hun ruimte op - op hun eigen voorwaarden, met hun eigen werk.

Ontvouwt zich niet in één, maar in twee Philly musea. Woodmere en de Pennsylvania Academie voor Schone Kunsten — Lichamen en zielen verkent hoe het werk van kunstenaars de complexiteit van de menselijke ervaring benadrukte, gender, seksualiteit, relaties en meer aankaartte, compassie cultiveerde en zich een betere wereld voorstelde.

De krachtige tentoonstelling toont meer dan 130 schilderijen, tekeningen en sculpturen van kunstenaars als Barbara Bullock en Marta Sanchez en uit de collectie van kunstverzamelaars Robert en Frances Coulborn Kohler uit Philadelphia.

Je kunt veel over iemand vertellen aan de hand van zijn of haar huis. Voor de Shakers - een religieuze gemeenschap die ontstond in het 18e-eeuwse Engeland en bloeide in de Verenigde Staten - strekten hun sterke overtuigingen over gemeenschap, arbeid en gelijkheid zich uit tot elk facet van het leven, inclusief hun meubels, architectuur en alledaagse goederen.

Een combinatie van historische, door Shakers gemaakte kunstvoorwerpen, rechtstreeks uit de Testament van Ann Lee met hedendaagse kunstwerken geïnspireerd door de gemeenschap, deze nieuwe tentoonstelling bij de Instituut voor Hedendaagse Kunst onderzoekt hoe de groep een onderscheidende visuele taal heeft ontwikkeld die wordt gekenmerkt door eenvoud, innovatie en doelgerichtheid.

Het werk van Ruth E. Carter, tweevoudig Academy Award-winnares voor kostuumontwerp, staat centraal in de African American Museum in Philadelphia’De nieuwste tentoonstelling van, Afrofuturisme in kostuumontwerp, waarin wordt onderzocht hoe Carters handgetekende kostuumontwerpen hebben bijgedragen aan het definiëren van iconische filmpersonages.

De modulaire tentoonstelling — met interactieve elementen — toont bekroonde kostuums en artefacten uit Carters gewaardeerde carrière, waaronder een zeldzame blik op de persoonlijke schetsen en kostuums van de artiest uit Carters privécollectie.

Carter - ook bekend als de meest genomineerde zwarte vrouw in de Oscargeschiedenis - won Oscars voor haar kostuumontwerpen voor de Black Panther films en is de eerste zwarte vrouw die meerdere Academy Awards in welke categorie dan ook heeft gewonnen.

Je hoeft de stad niet uit om te genieten van een Universal themaparkervaring. Deze wereldpremière tentoonstelling, aangeboden door The Franklin Institute en Universal Destinations & Experiences biedt een kijkje achter de schermen bij de innovatie en wereldopbouw die in elk Universal-pretpark plaatsvindt.

Met een oppervlakte van 18.000 vierkante meter en acht overweldigende galerijen toont de interactieve ervaring meer dan 100 voertuigen, rekwisieten en andere originele artefacten van wereldberoemde attracties, attracties en liveshows. En zoals het Franklin Institute betaamt, heeft de tentoonstelling een educatieve focus, waarbij alle technologie, techniek en kunstzinnigheid die komen kijken bij het ontwerpen van pretparken wordt uitgelicht.

Je weet dat de warme dagen nu voorgoed zijn aangebroken. Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Zomerfestival komt tot leven.

De lente- en zomerversie van deze locatie aan de rivier biedt een carnavalachtige sfeer met een enorme rolschaatsbaan, attracties, een promenade en arcadespellen, minigolf, eet- en drinkgelegenheden en evenementen gedurende het hele seizoen.

De toegang tot deze gezinsvriendelijke bestemming is gratis en open voor het publiek. Minigolf, spelletjes, attracties en concessies worden per gebruik betaald. ​

De hele late lente en zomer, Longwood Gardens’glorieuze fonteinen komen tot leven over de Kennettplein campus tijdens het jaarlijkse evenement van de attractie Festival van de fonteinen.

Dagelijks Optredens in de tuin van de hoofdfontein beginnen om 11.15 uur en lopen de hele dag door om de twee uur, met fonteinen met 1.719 stralen die wel 15 meter hoog worden. In het Openluchttheater kun je vanaf 10.15 uur elke twee uur een bonusvoorstelling van 5 minuten bijwonen.

Weekendavonden brengen oogverblindende kleurschakeringen bij de spectaculaire Verlichte fonteinvoorstellingen ingesteld op een roterende lijst van muzikale selecties.

Het is het grootste jaar tot nu toe voor Philly en hotels in de hele stad vieren de 250e verjaardag van Amerika met een toast op de geboorteplaats.

Meer dan 30 hotels schudden de boel op tijdens Philly's viering van het tweehonderdjarig bestaan als onderdeel van Geest van 76: De cocktailroute van Philadelphia.

Deze plekken serveren de hele lente en zomer heerlijke geschiedenis in de vorm van innovatieve cocktails en mocktails geïnspireerd op de centrale rol van Philadelphia in de oprichting van de natie.

Reserveer een hangmat en een waterfiets: Dienen als Waterkant van de Delaware-rivier oase sinds 2014, Havenpark Spruce Street is open for the 2026 season with a treasure trove of goodies, including a boardwalk with concessions, plenty of spaces to chill (think: Adirondack chairs and flat-bottomed net lounges above the river, and a popping weekly events lineup. Plus, Chiliboats Adventures and a new fleet of Swan Boats provide plenty of water fun.

Once the sun sets, the park lights up with hundreds of multi-colored LEDs strung among the tree canopy. The seasonal waterfront park is free and open to the public through the fall, with select activities pay-as-you-go.

Pro tip: Check out 2026 DRWC Flag Exhibition: Roots of Resilience, dat trotse verhalen van immigranten vertelt aan de hand van een samengesteld aantal internationale kunstenaars die van Philadelphia hun permanente thuis hebben gemaakt. Terug in 2026, de geliefde biertuin van Philly, Parken op tap, brouwt en eet in stadsparken en groene ruimten in heel Philadelphia, met elke week een nieuwe buurt.

Verwacht blikjes en bieren van Mainstay Independent Brewing, Conshohocken Brewing, Dogfish Head en meer, evenals drinkbare seizoenscocktails en hapjes variërend van cheeseburgers en pulled pork sandwiches tot frambozen cheesecake cups en Lunchables voor volwassenen (!).

Dagkaarten kosten slechts $5 (gratis voor SEPTA Sleutelhouders) en haltes Reading Terminal Market, Eastern State Penitentiaryde Philadelphia Museum of Artde Philadelphia Zoo en nog veel meer. Voor de allereerste keer stopt de opvallende paarse bus ook bij 30th Street Station, het Mütter Museum en het Fashion District.

Deze geliefde culinaire schat keert terug naar het hart van South Philly's FDR Park en luidt het openluchtmarktseizoen in. A nationaal bekende seizoensmarktde Zuidoost-Aziatische markt verschijnt elk weekend (met uitzondering van speciale evenementen) en biedt een aantal van de beste Laotiaanse, Khmer, Thaise, Vietnamese en Indonesische gerechten in de stad.

Op de markt van vorig jaar waren er meer dan 70 verkopers met traditionele gerechten, authentiek straatvoedsel en cultureel specifieke producten, plus planten, sieraden en kleding. Pak een picknickkleed in en vergeet niet om contant geld mee te nemen - sommige verkopers werken alleen met contant geld en er is geen geldautomaat op het terrein.

“Wanneer in de loop van menselijke gebeurtenissen ...” Het document waaruit die belangrijke zin afkomstig is, vormt het middelpunt van de programmering van het Museum of the American Revolution in 2026. De tentoonstelling The Declaration's Journey schetst de geschiedenis van Amerika's oprichtingshandvest en de voortdurende invloed ervan, die wereldwijd meer dan 100 onafhankelijkheidsbewegingen inspireerde.

De nalatenschap van de Verklaring wordt verkend aan de hand van archiefstukken, kunst en artefacten, waaronder de stoel van Thomas Jefferson, een door Markies de Lafayette geannoteerd ontwerp van de Franse Verklaring van de Rechten, de gevangenisbank waar Martin Luther King Jr. zijn “Brief uit een gevangenis in Birmingham” schreef, een spinnewiel dat door Gandhi werd gepresenteerd en nog veel meer.

In 1803 gaf president Thomas Jefferson Meriwether Lewis en William Clark de opdracht om de westelijke gebieden van het land te verkennen na de Louisiana Purchase. Maar wist je dat Philadelphia's Academie voor Natuurwetenschappen bewaart bijna alle originele dagboeken van de ontdekkingsreizigers en bewaard gebleven specimens met betrekking tot hun botanisch onderzoek in zijn Lewis & Clark Herbarium?

Het nieuwe museum Plantkunde van naties De tentoonstelling onderzoekt die rijke collectie opnieuw door een inheemse bril, waarbij botanie (de studie van planten) wordt gecombineerd met etnobotanie (de studie van hoe mensen planten gebruiken) om de manier waarop we de koloniale reis interpreteren een nieuwe vorm te geven.

Met hun eigen roemrijke geschiedenis, de Philadelphia Museum of Art en de Pennsylvania Academie voor Schone Kunsten (de allereerste kunstschool en het allereerste museum van het land) verdiepen zich in de rijkdom en diversiteit van de Amerikaanse kunstgeschiedenis voor deze blockbuster tentoonstelling, getimed om samen te vallen met de Vijfhonderdjarig jubileum.

De collectie, die 300 jaar Amerikaanse kunst samenbrengt en stukken bevat uit de ongelooflijke persoonlijke collectie van Phillies-eigenaar John Middleton en zijn vrouw Leigh, bevat meer dan 1000 portretten, beeldhouwwerken, meubels, foto's en meer in beide musea. Kijkers vinden enkele van de grootste namen uit de kunstwereld - waaronder Mary Cassatt en Charles Willson Peale - zij aan zij tentoongesteld met vaak over het hoofd geziene zwarte, inheemse, immigranten en historisch ondervertegenwoordigde kunstenaars en hedendaagse talenten.
