• Bluebird Distilling & Dough House in Chester County: Destilería Bluebird spent $2.2 million on its flagship space in Phoenixville, expanding the barrel room lounge and main dining room while adding from-scratch Neo-Neapolitan pizzas to the menu, all made with stone-ground Italian flour.

Don’t blow the candles out on America’s 250th birthday just yet.

Eastern State Penitentiary furthers the festivities by hosting Freedom Through Faith: Judaism at Eastern State and Beyond, a closer look at how Jewish inmates exercised religious freedom inside the prison’s walls. 

The exhibition shows the resilience of many Eastern European immigrants, like Jacob Forbes, who built the penitentiary’s first synagogue, and Anna Schultz Paull, who prepared holiday meals.

It also tells the story of Eastern State’s emergency hospital where the first communal gathering for prayer reportedly occurred in 1913.

The human experience is a shared one, best expressed in vibrant hues and visual language. At New Now IX, a six-week exhibition at InLiquid Gallery, 42 diverse artists open their minds (and easels) to the world. 

By shining a lens on everyday life — from showing rust-belt brain drain in small coal towns to taking back cultural identity through Spanish tilework — these shared human experiences make us whole. 

Featured artists include Chad Andrews, a Kutztown University graduate, and Laurie Beck Peterson, a faculty member at the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in Philadelphia, as well as Alana Bograd, who holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and many more.

Then, get ready for slugger Ben Rice and the Yankees (Friday through Sunday) — 2024 World Series runners-up — to wrap up the weekend.

Benjamin Franklin is flax-ing his muscles.

Franklin Thread en el Parque Benjamin Franklin reminds people about the important role flax played in the agriculturally based economy of Philadelphia in 1747. 

While the material is rarely used today, this 375-foot-long public art installation — located at Maja Park, near 22nd Street — features a linear thread of a flax-based, biogenic building material developed by Temple University professor Jeff Richards and his students. 

Anchored next to the display is a famous quote from Franklin: “At present, we are like the separate filaments of flax before thread is formed, without strength because without connection.” 

No te pierdas: Jardines Calder, the new immersive art installation, is mere steps away from Franklin Thread. 

The third of four Paseo nocturno down Main Street in Manayunk promises to be the biggest one yet. With country rock from local singer-songwriter Chris Rafter blasting down Cotton Street, and School of Rock — starring Jack Black and Joan Cusack — taking over the big screen on Grape Street, this is a certified street party. 

Kids can delight in face-painting and balloon-twisting stations, alongside Lucky’s Artist Alley and Starfinder Soccer Activation. Also, look for food trucks like Calaveras Street Tacos, Babalouie BBQ and Cheesecake Remix, with fun giveaways from Knappy Knicky Party Rentals.

Sharks are known to hunt at dawn and dusk, making Sips Undersea: Sunset with the Sharks en Acuario Aventura doubly appealing to shark fin-atics across the region. 

This adults-only party — perfect for a romantic date night thanks to stunning views of the sun setting over the Philly skyline — routinely sells out. 

Shark Realm, a 550,000-gallon exhibit devoted to the ocean’s apex predator, might be the main draw here, but it’s far from the only one. Hippo Haven houses two Nile hippos named Button and Genny, with Penguin Park always serving as a crowd pleaser. 

Estilo: Quint, the shark hunter from Tiburón who could have easily grown up in a South Philly rowhome, organized a speed-dating event.

Isaiah Zagar’s iconic mosaic labyrinth rolls out the picnic blankets for an enchanted evening of live music and three-dimensional art. 

West Indian artist Eustace Mamba, schooled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, shares his canvas as part of the Magic Garden's El atardecer en los jardines series, rhythmically accented by the haunting vocals of indie soul singer Tre.Charles. 

Twilight events happen on every Fourth Friday from May until October, with different themes, artists and musical acts taking over the space. The next one, after this Friday, is scheduled for August 28, 2026.

Former Philadelphia Eagles standout Connor Barwin continues to sow his legacy with a two-night fundraising concert, Make the World Better Weekend at the Dell Music Center.

The festival, now in its 10th year, raises money for the non-profit organization, which works with the city to improve parks, playgrounds and rec centers. 

This year’s lineup is a doozie, featuring Pavement and Ratboys on Friday night, followed by Kurt Vile & The Violators on Saturday. Vile is a leader in Philly’s robust indie rock scene, a homegrown artist (Monte Airy) who always reps the 215, while drawing heavy influence from his hero Bruce Springsteen. 

Estilo: The captain of the football team threw the best pep rally ever. 

Crack open that piggy bank: It’s time for Chestnut Hill’anual de Royal Rummage. 

Sellers in the Northwest Philly neighborhood come out in droves with sidewalk sales, deals and discounts, with more than 40 participating retailers, including trendy clothing boutiques like Ember and Giraffe, fun gift shops and galleries like Occassionette and Delphine Gallery, and specialty shops like comic book store 50 Watts and record store Hideaway Music.

The Mini Mini Art Show at At My House, a vintage clothing store and community space on Fabric Row, opens Friday during Queen Village’s Fourth Friday celebration. 

Break out the pint-sized paint brushes and sculpting knives as this diminutive art show challenges artists to create work measuring just 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches or smaller, which is roughly the size of a postage stamp. 

The event, back for a second year, is an open call for all aspiring mini artists looking to build on the success of last year’s inaugural show. Meanwhile, Chilean American illustrator Fabiola Lara brings new mini mini prints and her innovative portable vending machines.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. when a new #1 Sculpture, designed by muralist Jonathan Laidacker, gets unveiled outside the nation’s first art school.

Philly’s Jewish community joins America’s 250th anniversary festivities this week. Congregation Mikveh Israel — aptly known as the “Synagogue of the American Revolution” — hosts Jewish nonprofits, synagogues, business owners, artisans and community members from across the city at its historic site to celebrate 250-plus years of Jewish culture, traditions and history in the nation. 

The celebration brings food, music, shopping and plenty of family-friendly festivities to the longest continuously operating synagogue in the United States, dating back to 1740.

• Concerts at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion: It’s a rocking long weekend across the river at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, with three performances over four days, all featuring some of our favorite throwback acts. Party up with cowboy Tim McGraw (Thursday), R&B hitmakers NE-YO and Akon (Saturday), and pop-rock radio staples Tren (Sunday)

• Tia & The Connection at Malcolm X Park: Malcolm X Park comes alive with the rhythms and melodies of jazz, as the Cedar Park Jazz series continues this week with an open-air performance from Tia & The Connection (Friday).

Con una superficie de 1,700 metros cuadrados y ocho galerías inmersivas, esta experiencia interactiva exhibe más de 100 vehículos, accesorios y otros artefactos originales de atracciones, espectáculos y atracciones en vivo de fama mundial. La versión primaveral y veraniega de este recinto ribereño ofrece un ambiente festivo con una enorme pista de patinaje, atracciones, paseo marítimo y juegos recreativos, minigolf, opciones gastronómicas y eventos durante toda la temporada.

La entrada a este destino familiar es gratuita y está abierta al público. El minigolf, los juegos, las atracciones y los puestos de comida se pagan por separado.

Durante toda la primavera tardía y el verano, Longwood Gardens’las magníficas fuentes cobran vida por toda la ciudad Kennett Square campus durante la atracción anual Festival de las Fuentes.

Diario Actuaciones en el Jardín de la Fuente Principal comienzan a las 11:15 a. m. y se repiten cada dos horas a lo largo del día, con fuentes que cuentan con 1.719 chorros que alcanzan una altura de hasta 175 pies. En el Teatro al Aire Libre, no te pierdas un espectáculo adicional de 5 minutos que comienza a las 10:15 y se repite cada dos horas.

Una vez que se pone el sol, el parque se ilumina con cientos de luces LED de colores colgadas entre las copas de los árboles. El parque temporal frente al mar es gratuito y está abierto al público durante todo el otoño, aunque algunas actividades se pagan por separado.

Vuelve en 2026 la querida cervecería al aire libre itinerante de Philly, Parques de grifo, cervezas y bocadillos en los parques urbanos y espacios verdes de Filadelfia, con un barrio diferente cada semana. 

Podrás disfrutar de cervezas en lata y de barril de Mainstay Independent Brewing, Conshohocken Brewing, Dogfish Head y otras marcas, además de cócteles de temporada para degustar y bocadillos que van desde hamburguesas con queso y sándwiches de cerdo desmenuzado hasta vasitos de tarta de queso y frambuesa y «Lunchables» para adultos (!).

Philly siempre ha sido una ciudad de barrios, y durante 20 semanas esta primavera, verano y otoño podrás participar en recorridos gratuitos, organizados por expertos locales, para descubrir qué hace que cada barrio sea especial.

Cada semana, el Serie de recorridos «Jawnts» por el barrio se dirige a un barrio diferente para visitar restaurantes, tiendas, parques y lugares de interés histórico locales, todo ello de la mano de un guía experimentado. This week, enjoy a two-for-one special as the series takes you to both Chestnut Hill y Monte Airy.
