Every four years, the world’s top mathematicians gather together at an event dubbed the “Olympics of Mathematics” to share new findings and look to the future. 

The global gathering closes out its Pennsylvania Convention Center takeover this week with a slate of free public programming, including a lecture-performance mash-up examining the connections between music and math (Tuesday), public lectures, and more. All events are free to attend with registration.

Unplug without FOMO. Silent Day à Jardins de Calder is asking everyone to turn off the noise — cell phones, tablets, headphones, etc. — and experience the sounds of silence as the works of Alexander Calder wash over you. 

This free program focuses on quiet attention, encouraging visitors to reflect while pursuing the artist’s wire sculptures and innovative mobiles. 

Look for designated areas for reading, drawing, writing and meditation (bring a pillow!). Additionally, all Philly residents can enjoy free admission to both Calder Gardens and The Barnes Foundation from Monday through Friday (through the end of July).

”B” is for “Birthday” this week at Sesame Place’s 46th Birthday.

Everyone’s favorite children’s theme park, located in Langhorne (Bucks County), is throwing a 46th birthday bash, complete with a “Furry Friends” dance party and Elmo’s balloon scavenger hunt, plus tons of character meet-and-greets mixed in. As Cookie Monster likes to say, “Count your cookies, not your problems,” and one way to do that is by setting sail aboard Captain Cookie’s High C’s Adventure. 

Sesame Place, first opened in 1980, has plenty of thrilling rides for kiddos, in addition to a water park featuring Big Bird’s Rambling River and The Count’s Splash Castle.

Musée Mütter just hits differently after hours. What better way to see spooky skeletons and other oddities? 

Au Mütter Tüesdays After-Hours Access, the museum grants expanded access to core galleries and special exhibitions, including Botanique révolutionnaire (featuring plants used by Native American healers) and Le « Killer » Philly (about the 1976 Legionnaires’ disease outbreak), as well as entry into the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden. 

Note: 18% of the museum’s collection is human remains, so use discretion when deciding whether to bring children in. 

Vibe : Ben Stiller and Victor Frankenstein teamed up for the latest Night at the Museum sequel. 

Honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s veterans and the community groups dedicated to serving them with a day of food, fun and fellowship at Festival vétérinaire.

The free celebration at City Hall de Philadelphie promises food trucks and live performances from The Intruders, The Blue Notes, Urban Guerilla Band, MC_Thera Martin and DJ Ron Jeez, plus veteran-focused services and resources, meet and greets with members of Philadelphia City Council, and more.

Vibe : Star-spangled fun for everyone

A Ouest Philly tradition celebrating 21 years, the Bard takes center (outdoor) stage as « Shakespeare in Clark Park » présente : Hamlet this week. The free professional productions begin at 7 p.m. each night inside “the Bowl.”

When the Prince of Denmark heads home to mourn his dad’s sudden death, he finds mom married to Uncle Claudius, who has since declared himself king. Madness ensues, as does lots of swordplay. 

Spoiler alert: Things don’t end well for dear Hamlet in the beloved tragedy.

Let’s get ready to rumble! 

TNA iMPACT! turns The Liacouras Center into a no-holds-barred jungle gym, filled with demon-masked ringmasters and bleached-blonde showmen. This high-flying wrestling extravaganza — two-hour blocks happening over two nights — is returning to Philadelphia for the first time since 2011. 

Look for increased drama on Thursday when Mila Moore makes her debut as Secretary of Strategic Affairs for TNA International Champion Mustafa Ali’s Order of Four, a flashy wrestling faction. 

À ne pas manquer : TNA (Total Nonstop Action) is known for hosting day-of meet and greet events, where fans can get up close and personal with their favorite wrestlers. 

There ain’t nothing like summers on Rue du Sud. Head down to the buzzy corridor this Friday for an evening of fun, games, food, drink, shopping and more.

Yo Adrienne! Improv Festival takes over the Adrienne Theater in Rittenhouse Square for three straight days of improv magic, including hands-on workshops and live audience jams as up-and-coming comics make up jokes on the fly. 

This year’s festival, now in its second year, features more than 100 performers and 30 troupes from across the country trying out new material. “Fortunately, Philly has great cheesesteaks; Unfortunately, Ben Franklin was allergic to Cooper Sharp!” 

Vibe : Dad actually read the room before trying out his jokes at Thanksgiving dinner. 

Viviendo a través de la muerte (Living Through Death) brings the movie Coco to life through cartonería, a traditional Mexican craft of creating papier-mâché sculptures and decorative objects by layering paper and glue over a framework and painting them.

Mexican-born artist Ivette Chaires, the 2024 Julia Zagar Residency for Women Artists recipient — a 10-year-old program supporting female folk artists from Latin America — explores traditional Mexican themes, like Día de Muertos, while merging contemporary imagery into her work.

SummerFest at Piazza Alta Courtyard, a mixed-use community space backdropped by 16-story-tall towers, sets the scene for an all-day party. Local food trucks and small businesses — everything from Darnel’s Cakes and Lost Bread Co. (as featured on our Carte des boulangeries!) to Liberty Kitchen and Wisshickon Brewing Company — plan to keep you satiated and hydrated.

Philly’s Freeway — rapper (and Jay-Z bestie) — hosts his 3rd Annual Free Fest à Le chantier naval on Saturday, freestyling unshakeable beats and treats at the Marine Parade Grounds. Freeway, in partnership with City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, puts on a 100% free concert alongside family-friendly activities, giveaways and local vendors. 

À ne pas manquer : Free health screenings on-site, with 250 free blood pressure cuffs available to anyone who wants one (while supplies last). 

Portes ouvertes à Initiative artistique asiatique shows off the community-based arts center’s newly renovated and reimagined spaces during this free event near The Rail Park. 

Four live performances transform the Black Box Theater into a magical mystery tour, featuring an interactive play exploring childhood memories by Michelle Nguyen (audience participation is key!) and a pop-up exhibition showing spontaneous street photography from Philadelphia-based artist Alex Wong.

A criminal has pulled off the heist of the century (the 20th to be exact), stealing London’s prized Tasmanian tiger without a trace. Who are the culprits? How did they do it? And why?! That’s where you come in, detective.

The Bucks County farm’s fourth annual Sweet Corn Festival returns with corn-themed games and activities, including a corn-eating contest, cornhole and a corn pit for the kids (very popular). Plus, jam to live music by local bands, meet farm critters at the petting zoo, saddle up for pony rides and — new for 2026 — live out your firefighter fantasies with The Fantastic Fire Department Philly. 

On the festival menu, expect a bunch of corn-based eats, as well as pay-as-you-go food from local vendors, and drinks from Broad Street Brewing and Ashlynn Distillery.

Vibe : Good, old-fashioned, family fun at the corn-iest fest around

It’s 1965, the height of the Civil Rights Movement. And Dr. Martin Luther King — the once-in-a-generation leader at the center of it all — is delivering a speech to 10,000 Philadelphians.

Ouest Philly marks the 61st anniversary of Dr. King’s tour with the second annual Freedom Now Festival and Rally. Join local leaders, Black-owned businesses and community members for a day of live performances, art exhibits, film screenings and storytelling, all in the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement.

Also look out for: pay-as-you-go food truck fare, a pop-up marketplace and hands-on activities in the Dream Builders Kids Zone.

Toute la fin du printemps et l'été, Longwood Gardens’Les fontaines glorieuses s'animent à travers les rues de la ville. Kennett Square campus lors de la conférence annuelle de l'attraction Festival des fontaines.

Quotidiennement Spectacles dans le jardin de la fontaine principale commencent à 11 h 15 et se poursuivent toutes les deux heures tout au long de la journée, avec des fontaines dotées de 1 719 jets s'élevant jusqu'à 175 pieds de haut.
