Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, located just northeast of Center City, is a Delaware River waterfront community that spans colonial-era history and 21st-century development — and also serves as one of Philadelphia’s hubs for great eateries.

Fishtown diners can enjoy many types of cuisines, including authentic Indian food (Ekta), award-winning bagels made “the Philly way” (Philly Style Bagels), amazing Italian fare hiding in an Irish bar (Murph’s), awesome barbecue and bourbon (Fette Sau), and internationally celebrated slices (Pizzeria Beddia).

Note that while the neighborhood also brims with places to find creative cocktails (R&D) and satisfy the sweet tooth (Weckerly’s), this list is all about awesome dining options.

Read on for our guide to the best places to eat in and adjacent to Philly’s Fishtown neighborhood.

Note: This list is arranged alphabetically.

Philly Style Bagels bakes bagels in small batches the Philly way: pre-boiled in a mixture of water and beer for an extra malty flavor that draws lines of hungry breakfast-seekers on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Traditionalists argue the bagels need nothing more than butter or a schmear of cream cheese, but the BLT with avocado is a favorite sandwich among the lunch crowd, and Bon Appétit dubbed the classic lox sandwich the “Best New Sandwich in America” in 2016.

When Bon Appétit crowned its pizza the very best in America, Pizzeria Beddia was a small, cash-only spot with no phone, no seats, no slices and a 40-pie output per day limit. Those days are long gone now, as Joe Beddia’s internationally lauded pizza gets a larger platform at his full-service restaurant that opened in 2019, earning a spot on Time magazine’s list of World’s Greatest Places to Eat & Drink. While the expanded menu is lovely (vegetable and cheese plates, natural wines) the impeccably charred, masterful pies continue to steal the show.
