The Monto is the newest collaboration from industry veterans Fergus Carey and Jim McNamara. Housed inside the former Mac’s Tavern space in Old City, this Irish pub has quickly become a go-to watering hole for watching the English Premier League while quaffing a proper pint of Guinness.
The Monto cheekily draws its name from a popular Dubliners song from the 1960s. The lyrics — take her up to Monto, lan-ge-roo — set the mood, but the Santé vibe keeps the regulars coming back for more.
Owners are leaning hard into The Pogues for inspiration, too, inviting folk musicians, harp players and Irish brogues of all sorts to sing into the wee hours. Food? The menu’s still in progress, but expect to see playful nods to Irish pub fare in the near future.
Bon pour : Anyone who ever wanted to know what it felt like to be an extra in The Departed
